Harlem in Disorder: A Spatial History of How Racial Violence Changed in 1935

Citing a report by Senior Detective Inspector Edward Graff, this study provided information on 1,883 arrested during the disorder:

Felony charges: 315 for carrying concealed weapons, 167 for breaking and entering a business, 117 for looting, 28 for felonious assault, 2 for receiving stolen property, 1 for manslaughter, for a total of 630.

Misdemeanors: 559 for disturbing the peace, 20 for malicious destruction of property, 10 for violation of martial law, 8 for assault and battery, for a total of 597.

Arrested and not charged: 617 released by police, 27 prosecutor refused to issue warrant, 12 transferred to Traffic or Probation, for a total of 656.
