The District Attorney's case files provide the evidence that the cases of these men were heard on this date. The case files for James Hughes, Isaac Daniels, and Charles Saunders record March 22 as the date of their indictment. That was the same day as police presented bench warrants in the Harlem Magistrates Court based on the men's indictment as a result of Dodge's grand jury investigation, leading to their discharge and rearrest on those charges. The details of the indictments provided to the press by Dodge indicated that they were likely indicted on March 21.
