Harlem in Disorder: A Spatial History of How Racial Violence Changed in 1935

District Attorney's Closed Case Files, 204005 (1935) (New York City Municipal Archives).

The case file includes the standard forms generated in the Magistrates Court — an affidavit charging a crime and an examination of the defendant that records age, birthplace, home address, occupation and plea — and a criminal record.

In addition, the file includes carbon copies of two letters sent by the District Attorney: a request to the clerk of the McDowell County Court in Welch, West Virginia, for the legal records of Larry's conviction for grand larceny; and a response to a request for information from the parole board, which summarizes the offense, disposition, and Larry's criminal record. As is typically the case, the district attorney made no recommendation on parole. There is no response from the court in West Virginia.
