Harlem in Disorder: A Spatial History of How Racial Violence Changed in 1935

The Negro in Harlem: A Report on Social and Economic Conditions Responsible for the Outbreak of March 19, 1935 (1935), Subject Files, Box 167, Folder 8 (Roll 76), Records of Mayor Fiorello H. La Guardia, 1934-1945 (New York City Municipal Archives).

This version of the report written by E. Franklin Frazier has been edited by MCCH members. Frazier's original text was the version published by the New York Amsterdam News on July 18, 1936, and reprinted by Arno Press in 1969. The published version, however, did not include the text of the leaflet issued by the Communist Party, only the text of the leaflet issued by the Young Liberators. The text of both leaflets appeared in the version reprinted by Arno Press. This version also included front matter not in the published version, the covering letter to Mayor La Guardia, and a foreword describing the MCCH members and their contributions to the investigation and report. This version of the report has recently been made available online.
