Harlem in Disorder: A Spatial History of How Racial Violence Changed in 1935

White men in the courts (8)

Only three of the eight white men arrested during the disorder were found guilty: Harry Gordon, of assaulting a white police officer at the beginning of the disorder; Leo Smith, of disorderly conduct having been arrested for breaking windows; and Jose Perez, for possession of a gun. The sentences magistrates imposed on Gordon and Perez in the Court of General Sessions are unknown. In the Harlem court, Magistrate Renaud sentenced Smith to one month in the Workhouse.
