Harlem in Disorder: A Spatial History of How Racial Violence Changed in 1935

George Anton assaulted

Sometime prior to 10.45PM, George Anton, a 44-year-old white man, was assaulted by “several unknown colored men” on 7th Avenue between 126th and 127th Streets.

The assault occurred at the northern end of a cluster of assaults around 7th Avenue and 125th Street early in the disorder, when crowds first began to move beyond 125th Street.

The only report of the assault is a hospital record: Anton received treatment at the 5th Avenue Hospital for “laceration of right hand, abrasion of head and right knee.” He then left for his home, 73 Washington Street.
